San Jose Museum of Art Competition

The San Jose Museum of Art located at University of California, San Jose is an existing Art teaching facility with a Museum. It was the intent of this Competition to expand the existing structure to accommodate a much larger Museum to exhibit works of Art and Sculpture.

The proposal called for rehabilitating the existing structure to provide for more Art Classroom, creating a Sculpture courtyard and adding the new Museum wing parallel to the main artery. The 30,000 sf addition is planned as a transparent addition, so that the Sculpture Court is visible from the street level thru the glass façade and the large bulk of the addition reflects the adjoining student activities. The main entry to the Museum is located at the corner and which becomes a focal point and a gathering space for student activities. The Sculpture Court is planned as a quiet place to appreciate Art and also be used as an outdoor Art class for Lectures or Sketching.
